The rarest pets in Adopt Me and how players get them

Adopt Me has hundreds of pets, but only a few make people stop and stare in a trade. Most of the rarest ones share the same story: they came from an event or an egg that's long gone, so no new ones are being made.

Here are the rarest pets in the game, why they're so hard to get, and what makes some versions even rarer.

Why some pets are so rare

  • Retired eggs. When an egg leaves the shop, its pets stop hatching. Old legendaries from eggs like the Safari, Farm and Jungle Egg only get rarer every year.
  • Old events. Pets from past Halloween and Christmas events can't be earned again, and some took a huge grind to unlock.
  • Low hatch rates. Legendaries from the old eggs had only around a 3% chance to hatch, so there weren't many to begin with.

The rarest pets right now

Bat Dragon

From the 2019 Halloween event. Each one cost 180,000 Candy to unlock, which took ages to grind. It's still one of the most wanted and most valuable pets in the game.

Shadow Dragon

A Halloween 2019 pet that was sold for Robux and can't be bought anymore. Ask most players to name a rare pet and this is usually the first one they say.

Frost Dragon

Released during Christmas 2019 and no longer for sale. It's so well known that players often use it as a benchmark when they compare trades.

Giraffe

A legendary from the retired Safari Egg and one of the oldest legendaries in the game. With so many old accounts gone inactive, there are fewer in trades every year.

Owl, Crow and Parrot

Legendaries from the Farm Egg and Jungle Egg, both long retired. The Owl is the most wanted of the three, but all of them are hard to find, especially as Mega Neons.

Balloon Unicorn

A newer limited pet from the 2024 Summer State Fair event. It's much newer than the others, but its Neon and Mega Neon versions are already rare.

Neon and Mega Neon versions

Any pet can be made rarer. Combine four fully grown copies of the same pet at the Neon Cave to get a Neon version. Combine four fully grown Neons to get a Mega Neon.

That means a Mega Neon needs 16 of the same pet. For a Bat Dragon, that's 16 Bat Dragons, which is why a Mega Neon Bat Dragon sits at the very top of most rare pet lists. Mega Neon Shadow Dragons, Giraffes and Owls aren't far behind.

How players get rare pets

  • Trading: the main way to get a retired pet now. Check what your pets are worth first so you don't trade away too much.
  • Events: new limited pets come out with each event. Get them while they're out, because they don't come back.
  • Buying: if you'd rather skip months of trading, you can buy the pet you want straight to your account.
